how to start a tarot blog in 2025

Starting a new Tarot blog is not something I’m a stranger to. I’ve started many since I started my first ‘Tarot and Healing’ blog back in 2006. But starting a blog in today’s AI-driven internet is a different ballgame altogether. Let’s face it, whatever your reason for wanting to start a Tarot blog, you want an audience for it. With this in mind, I did some research on how to start a blog so that a) I could get my own Tarot Hive blog off the ground and b) I could share what I learned with the rest of you.

My own Tarot reading business started as a consequence of sharing what I was learning and experimenting with on my Tarot blogs. People started requesting readings from me and I had to start charging. This happened about four or five years after I started my first Tarot blog. At that time, I was writing mainly on my Tarotize.com blog (I no longer own this domain).

In case you just stumbled on this post and have no idea what a blogger is:

someone who writes a blog (= a regular record of someone’s ideas, opinions, or experiences that is put on the internet for other people to read)

But Lisa, Isn’t Blogging Dead?

No, blogging isn’t dead. However, if you want people to find your work, you must be more strategic about getting your work out there these days. We live in the era of influencers and content creators constantly spamming the web to get sponsorships and income from ad revenue. Regular 9-5 jobs are getting taken over by AI and even Hollywood Actors are forced to start their own brands.

Following the step-by-step outline below is no guarantee of success but it will improve your chances tenfold. FYI, you also have to be willing to work hard. Being a blogger may seem like the ultimate work-from-home-in-your-pjs dream for us introverts but results only come if you put the hours in.

How to Start Your Tarot Blog in 2025

1. Define Your Niche and Audience

  • Decide on the focus of your blog: Will you cover Tarot basics, advanced techniques, love readings, spiritual growth, or a mix? I’m going for a mix that will appeal to every level Tarot enthusiast who is especially interested in mindset, self-empowerment and connection (hence the ‘hive’).
  • Identify your target audience: Beginners, seasoned readers, or spiritual seekers interested in Tarot and metaphysics? My target audience is anybody (of any age) who wants to use the Tarot for the purposes stated above rather than fortune-telling. I believe my audience is willing to see the Tarot more as a tool for co-creating their destiny rather than as a tool that hands them their fate and fortune.
  • Develop a unique angle: For example, blending Tarot with astrology, shadow work, self-care, or pop culture themes. My unique angle comes from the Bee Goddess herself. She (whether archetype or actual deity, I’m not sure). Her presence inspired me to create a Tarot blog that empowers (Queen Bee) and connects (the hive) through the One Mind. (Others may refer to this ‘One Mind’ as ‘god’ or ‘the universe.’)

2. Choose a Memorable Blog Name

  • Opt for a name that reflects your blog’s purpose and vibe (according to Chat GPT, The Tarot Hive is memorable and community-focused).
  • Check domain name availability and social media handles to ensure consistency.

3. Select a Blogging Platform

  • Popular options include WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace. Back in 2006, almost everyone used Blogger–not so much these days!
  • For simplicity and growth potential, use WordPress.org (self-hosted) with reliable hosting. Being self-hosted is essential if you are serious about creating a Tarot blog as part of your business. I’m currently with Fasthosts, a new hosting platform for me, so I can’t recommend them quite yet but so far so good and fingers crossed! In the past, I was with TsoHost for a long time but they got taken over by 123reg which is who I’m with for my Angelorum Tarot blog that I have kept going since 2015.
  • Choose a clean, responsive theme that suits your aesthetic and prioritises user experience. The theme I’m using here is called Revision (not an affiliate link). One of the reasons I chose this theme is how clean it is and also that you can choose between dark and light mode. However, there are several free themes out there that you can use. Astra is a popular free choice, for instance.

4. Plan Your Content Strategy

  • Create a list of blog topics your audience will love. Examples:
    • Tarot card meanings (general card meanings or thematic series).
    • How-to guides (e.g., “How to Do a Love Reading”).
    • Tarot spreads for specific purposes (e.g., self-discovery, career).
    • Real-life applications of Tarot.
    • Personal stories and lessons learned through Tarot.
  • Post consistently (minimum once a week) to keep readers engaged.

The good news in this weird and wonderful AI era is that it is now impossible to run out of topics. All you have to do is ask Chat GPT. You can even ask AI to generate your entire content strategy for you. However, please–for the love of all that is good–do NOT let AI write your blog posts for you. Those of us who write our own blog posts can spot AI material from a mile away and even readers who are not themselves writers are beginning to recognise how AI writes.

5. Build SEO-Friendly Blog Posts

  • Use SEO tools like Yoast SEO or Rank Math to optimize posts for keywords like “Tarot spreads,” “beginner Tarot,” or “spiritual guidance.” I use Yoast SEO but only because I can’t be arsed with learning how to use a new SEO plugin. However, some claim that both Rank Math and AIOSEO are better than Yoast so that might be worth checking out if you want to really drill down on SEO.
  • Add headings, subheadings, and transition words for readability.
  • Write meta descriptions (around 140-150 characters) to attract readers from search engines.

6. Incorporate Visuals

  • Use high-quality images of Tarot cards, spreads, and tools.
  • Create graphics with Canva for social media and blog posts.
  • Add videos or GIFs to make your posts more engaging.

In an era where people’s attention spans are becoming increasingly shorter, visuals are becoming increasingly more important. I would actually include bullet points in this as they make it easier for the eye to take in the information. As you can see, I have used quite a few of those myself in this post.

7. Monetise Your Blog

Monetising your blog may not be your first priority but it will happen when the time is right. It’s important to have a strategy for this in mind when you set your blog up.

  • Offer Tarot readings or coaching services directly through your site.
  • Create digital products, like eBooks, Tarot courses, or printable spreads.
  • Use affiliate marketing for Tarot decks, books, or metaphysical tools.
  • Enable ads once your traffic grows (e.g., Google AdSense or Ezoic).

8. Promote Your Blog

  • Share your posts on platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok, where Tarot thrives.
  • Hashtags are gradually being phased out on most social media platforms so put a bit of effort into the wording instead, introducing your social media post in a way that lets your audience (and the algorithm) know what your post is all about.
  • Build an email list with a free lead magnet (e.g., a downloadable Tarot spread). My top tip for building an email list is to start a Substack. Not only is it free but you own your list and you can start charging for paid subscriptions.
  • Engage with the Tarot community by commenting on other blogs or collaborating.

9. Stay Inspired and Evolve

  • Track your traffic through Google analytics or Jetpack stats to see what resonates with your audience.
  • Regularly brainstorm new ideas and respond to trends in the Tarot and spiritual communities.
  • Expand your reach with additional offerings like videos, live readings, or workshops.

10. Focus on Authenticity

  • Share your unique perspective and personal experiences with Tarot. In a world where AI-produced content creates a chasm of disconnect, it’s more important than ever that we share our stories with each other.
  • Be transparent about your journey, including the ugly parts. That’s how you build trust with your readers. My prime example of this is how I shared about my Religious Trauma Syndrome struggles on the Angelorum Tarot blog.

By staying consistent, connecting with your audience, and evolving your content, you can create a Tarot blog that inspires, educates, and thrives in 2025 and beyond!
